The first edition of the musical forum "Night of the Choirs" was held yesterday in the courtyard of the Archaeological Museum - Varna. The event is organized by the dance group "Sharena Gaida" with the financial support of the National Culture Fund. The Night of Choirs is the first such edition that brings together on one stage vocal formations that work and create in the field of folk singing, explained in the studio of the media group "Dobrudja" the artistic director of the event Dimo Alexandrov, who is a choreographer and dancer in PFA "Dobrudja". He pointed out that there are many choir festivals in the country, but this is the first one aimed at choirs involved in folk singing. The aim is to bring together choirs belonging to folklore ensembles, school and amateur choirs. In other words, a meeting of amateur with professional choral art, explained Alexandrov.
After the performance on stage yesterday, a creative talk took place in which the members of the jury talked to the choir directors about the problems in the choral art. The jury consisted of Zhivko Zhelev - composer and director of the choir of PFA "Dobrudja" and three conductors Dr. Nikolay Grobanov, Tanya Velichkova and Assoc. Yordanka Nedelcheva. The feedback for this first edition was very good, the artistic director reported.
In the first edition only choirs from the city of Varna took part, as guests were the musicians from the orchestra of PFA "Dobrudja". The idea is to have guest choirs from different parts of the country for the next editions and to have a professional choir at the finale.
The first edition of the event was held on World Music Day. The date was not chosen by chance because, besides, on this day the Church honours two saints associated with Church Slavonic singing - John Koukouzelis and Romanos the Melodist, Aleksandrov noted, but specified that it is yet to be decided on what date the next edition of the forum will be.
